Will a Bouncy Castle Fit My Garden?
The short answer
A standard 12ft by 12ft castle needs roughly 15ft by 16ft of clear, flat space once you allow for side clearance, entrance room and blower access. A castle with a slide needs more, closer to 15ft by 22ft. A compact unit or a hall hire is usually still an option if your garden is smaller than that.

How much space does a bouncy castle actually need?
The footprint printed on a price list is the size of the castle itself. It is not the space you need to book one, because you also need room down each side to walk around it, clear space in front of the entrance for children getting on and off, and room behind for the blower that keeps it inflated, in line with HSE safety clearance guidance for inflatables.

Measure your garden with a tape rather than by eye. Odd-shaped plots, sloped lawns and gardens with a tree or shed in the middle catch people out more often than gardens that are simply small.
Access checklist before you book
- Gate or side return width: 80cm minimum. A castle has to go through in one piece. It cannot be folded round a tight corner.
- Steps: tell us if there are any between the road and the garden. A step or two is usually fine, a full flight of stairs usually is not.
- Power: your nearest outdoor or accessible socket needs to be within 30m of where the castle will sit. We bring the extension leads. You do not need your own.
- Surface underfoot: flat ground matters more than a big garden. A small flat lawn beats a large sloped one.
Grass, patio or concrete: does the surface matter?
Yes, and it changes how we secure the castle. We peg the castle down on grass at every anchor point using ground stakes, which is the strongest and simplest method. Pegs will not go in on patio, decking or concrete, so we use sandbags at every anchor point instead. Either method is safe when done properly, but we need to know your surface in advance so we bring the right kit. Tell us which area the castle will actually sit on if your garden has a mix of grass and hard standing.
What if a bouncy castle does not fit my garden?
If your garden cannot take even the smallest unit, you have two straightforward options. The first is a smaller unit: our compact castles have a shorter footprint than the standard 12ft x 12ft size and are worth asking about if space is tight. The second is a hall hire, which trades outdoor space for a controlled indoor one, useful if your garden is small, sloped, or you would rather not gamble on the weather at all.
